Agency Representatives Participate in the 5th CIS Islamic Banking and Finance Forum

The 5th CIS Islamic Banking and Finance Forum, held under the theme "Advancing Islamic Finance for Sustainable Growth Across CIS," has commenced in Tashkent. The forum is dedicated to promoting the development of Islamic finance across the CIS region. The National Agency of Perspective Projects of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NAPP) is participating as one of the event's official partners.

On behalf of the Agency, Mr. V. A. Lee, Head of the Capital Market Ecosystem Development and Regulatory Innovation Department, delivered a welcome address. In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to the organizers and international partners, highlighting the growing interest in ethical finance in Uzbekistan and across the region, particularly in sukuk instruments. He encouraged international experts and participants to actively exchange experience, promote innovation, and enhance industry standards. Mr. Lee also emphasized the Agency's readiness to consider practical proposals and expert recommendations developed during the forum in the process of drafting secondary legislation governing Islamic finance.

The forum program features a plenary session and thematic discussions covering the development of the legal and regulatory framework for Islamic finance, Shariah governance, international standards of AAOIFI and IFSB, the role of Islamic finance in attracting foreign investment, the development of the sukuk market, Islamic insurance (takaful), Islamic leasing (ijarah), fintech solutions, and financing for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The forum has brought together representatives of government authorities, international financial institutions, the banking and insurance sectors, investment institutions, and the expert community. Among the event's partners are the National Agency of Perspective Projects of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Association of Banks of Uzbekistan, the Association of Insurers of Uzbekistan, and other specialized organizations.

The forum serves as an important platform for exchanging international best practices and discussing the future development of Islamic finance in Uzbekistan and across the CIS region.
